Supports stressed joints in senior and sport horses
150g sufficient for approximately 3–4 weeks
350g sufficient for approximately 2–3 months
OKAPI Synofit supports the natural regeneration of joint cartilage. It is particularly suitable for horses whose joints are under increased strain, such as sport horses, as well as those with overweight or misalignments. Older horses and those prone to gait irregularities also benefit from regular use.
Glucosamine sulfate, along with chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid, is one of the most important nutrients for the cells of joint cartilage. However, hyaluronic acid administered with the feed is unfortunately broken down during digestion. Chondroitin sulfate is typically derived from pig skin, which we believe makes it unsuitable for feeding to horses. Additionally, it is largely broken down in the digestive tract into glucosamine and glucuronic acid. Therefore, we avoid combining these three ingredients and instead rely solely on pure glucosamine sulfate.
OKAPI Synofit is pure glucosamine sulfate, produced through a special fermentation process. Glucosamine is a naturally occurring amino sugar found in living organisms, which is combined with sulphur in tissues (= sulfate) to become biologically active. Although it is relatively expensive due to the manufacturing process, it is one of the three essential cartilage nutrients, making it particularly suitable for horses with stressed joints.
OKAPI Synofit can easily be mixed with other feed and added to the horse’s trough. To the best of our knowledge, there are no known interactions with other feed products. On the contrary, depending on the individual case, OKAPI Synofit can be well combined, for example, with OKAPI Devil’s Claw, OKAPI Sulphur Plus, OKAPI Diatomaceous Earth Plus, or OKAPI Detox Herbs to further support the metabolism.
We generally recommend administering OKAPI Synofit for a period of 6-8 weeks and observing the horse. If the horse’s movement pattern stabilises during and after the course, a break can be taken, with another course given several weeks or months later, if you feel the horse could benefit from it.
However, in some cases, this may not be sufficient, especially during the cold and damp months. In such cases, OKAPI Synofit can be given continuously, for example, throughout the winter, until the weather becomes dry and warm again, and the horses are generally in better condition.
If necessary, OKAPI Synofit can also be combined with OKAPI Sulphur Plus.
OKAPI Synofit can be directly incorporated into the horse’s existing feed.
To calculate the appropriate dose for OKAPI Synofit, the following steps can be followed:
Determine the horse’s weight: The weight of the horse can be determined either by weighing it, measuring it with a tape measure, or by using apps such as the BCI app from our partner Sanoanimal (available for free on Google Play and the Apple Store).
Follow the feeding recommendation: The general recommendation for OKAPI products is based on a 600 kg horse.
The recommended daily amount is 1 ML twice a day (1 scoop = 3 g).
Adjust the dose: If the horse weighs, for example, 300 kg, the dose should be adjusted accordingly. The calculation would be: Daily dose (3 g) / 600 kg × Horse’s weight (300 kg) = Daily ration (1.5 g). This calculation method allows you to determine the appropriate amount.
OKAPI Synofit contains: 100% Glucosamine (from fermentation)
What does fermentation mean?
There are essentially two methods of obtaining glucosamine. The most common method involves processing the shells of crustaceans, such as crabs, lobsters, and so on, which are by-products from crab or lobster meat production. This glucosamine can, in some cases, cause allergic reactions, which is why we explicitly do not use it. Our glucosamine sulfate comes from fermentation, meaning it is produced using special microorganisms in a fermentation chamber (fermenter). It is then highly purified and bottled by us. The same method is used to produce glucosamine sulfate for the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring that we provide pure glucosamine sulfate without unwanted impurities.
