What is OKAPI Juniormineral Lick?
The OKAPI Mineral Lick provides a natural and targeted mineral supply for horses, free from unnecessary sugar additives or flavour enhancers. Unlike conventional products, we rely on the proven formulas of our granulated mineral feed, ensuring that horses only consume minerals when their bodies truly need them. By avoiding candy-like substances and sugary adhesives, we prevent horses from licking the block purely out of taste preference. Instead, mineral intake is guided by the horse’s actual needs, avoiding excessive mineral consumption.
Our mineral licks contain the same molasses content as the granulated mineral feed, as it is essential for the granulation process. By adding water at the optimal mixing stage, the ingredients react to form a plaster-like consistency, which is then hardened using a specialised process. This structure ensures the lick is firm and durable while retaining its nutritional value.
Horses will only lick the OKAPI Mineral Lick when they have a genuine need for minerals. It is therefore possible for the block to remain untouched for an extended period if the horse’s base feed already provides sufficient nutrition. However, in horses with metabolic disorders or increased mineral needs, such as those caused by specific imbalances, the lick may be used more frequently. For this reason, we recommend offering the lick under supervision during the initial phase to ensure appropriate use.

How is OKAPI Juniormineral Lick fed?
It is important to initially offer the mineral lick under supervision, for example, in an open stable group during mucking out or to individual horses during grooming. Horses with significant mineral imbalances may be inclined to consume excessive amounts if given unrestricted access. Supervising the initial introduction helps prevent the horses from emptying the lick too quickly or consuming it in excessive quantities. If the lick is largely ignored by the horses, it can then be made freely available, such as in the shelter of an open stable or a dry corner of the box.
What is included in OKAPI Juniormineral Lick?
OKAPI Juniormineral contains calcium carbonate, sodium chloride, monocalcium phosphate, magnesium oxide, grape seed meal, and molasses. It is enriched with a comprehensive range of nutritional additives per kg: 100,000 IU of Vitamin A, 3,000 mg of Vitamin E, 100 mg of Vitamin B1, 200 mg of Vitamin B2, 100 mg of Vitamin B6, 1,000 µg of Vitamin B12, 900 mg of niacinamide, 450 mg of calcium-D-pantothenate, 100 mg of Vitamin K3, 100 mg of folic acid, 5,000 mg of choline chloride, and 20,000 µg of biotin. Additionally, it contains 2,000 mg of copper (as copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate), 3,000 mg of manganese (as manganese(II) oxide), 6,000 mg of zinc (as zinc sulfate monohydrate), 2,500 mg of iron (as iron(II) sulfate monohydrate), 90.0 mg of iodine (as calcium iodate, anhydrous), 35.0 mg of cobalt (as coated cobalt(II) carbonate granulate), and 15.0 mg of selenium (as sodium selenite). Essential amino acids include 64,000 mg of L-lysine monohydrochloride, 20,000 mg of DL-methionine, and 20,000 mg of L-threonine, all technically pure.
