What is OKAPI HoofCool forte?
“No Hoof, No Horse” – this old saying is more relevant than ever today. Unfortunately, hoof problems are much more widespread than horse owners would like, ranging from (usually relatively harmless) thrush to life-threatening laminitis. HoofCool forte is designed to support the physiological balance of the hoof laminae, which play a crucial role in the healthy suspension of the coffin bone.
It can be given to horses that are generally sensitive to stress and tend to become foot sore. It is also suitable for supporting hoof metabolism during the recovery phase after acute issues. Especially during the grazing season, it should not be missing from any feed room. Warm hooves after grazing can indicate potential problems that should be taken seriously in a timely manner.
It is, of course, important to take a holistic approach when dealing with hoof problems, considering factors such as diet and management, as well as potentially existing metabolic disorders like insulin resistance, Cushing’s disease, or KPU (Kryptopyrroluria). It is essential to consult a competent therapist or veterinarian to address these concerns. After all, only a healthy horse can stand on healthy hooves. In many cases, the actual problem that may stem from an imbalance in the digestive tract, or a disruption in liver or kidney function, often manifests visually as hoof issues.
Is OKAPI HoofCool forte suitable for my horse?
OKAPI HoofCool forte is suitable for horses that need support for hoof metabolism. This includes horses during turnout or in changing weather conditions, particularly in the autumn, as well as those already showing signs of hoof discomfort or changes in their gait. It is also beneficial for horses recovering from acute hoof issues. Additionally, it can be used prophylactically in horses with an increased risk of hoof problems to support hoof metabolism.
Can I combine OKAPI HoofCool forte with other products?
OKAPI HoofCool forte can be used in combination with other products to optimise metabolic support. It complements well with OKAPI Detox Herbs, OKAPI PankrEMS forte, OKAPI HeparKPU forte, and OKAPI Spirulina. However, it should be fed with a minimum of two hours’ gap from mineral-containing feeds to prevent mineral binding. It is important to note that due to its high content of trace elements and Klinoptilolite, HoofCool forte should only be administered strictly according to the recommended guidelines.
How long should I feed OKAPI HoofCool forte ?

How is OKAPI HoofCool forte fed?
OKAPI HoofCool forte can be mixed with the horse’s feed, but it should be fed with a minimum of two hours’ separation from mineral-containing feed to avoid the binding of minerals. It is important to note that due to its high content of trace elements and Klinoptilolite, HoofCool forte should only be administered strictly according to the recommended guidelines.
How do I calculate the correct dosage for my horse?
To calculate the appropriate dose for OKAPI HoofCool forte, determine the weight of the horse. The horse’s weight can be measured by weighing, using a measuring tape, or with apps like the BCI App from our partner Sanoanimal (available for free in the Google Play and the Apple Store).
The general recommendation for OKAPI products is based on a 600 kg horse. The recommended daily amount is 3 mL, three times a day (1 scoop = 12 g). For ponies or horses with chronic issues, the dose should be roughly halved according to their size.
To adjust the dose: If the horse weighs 300 kg, the dose should be adjusted accordingly. The calculation is as follows: daily dose (36 g) / 600 kg × weight of the horse (300 kg) = daily ration (18 g). This method helps determine the appropriate amount.
It is important to divide the daily amount as evenly as possible across three meals, or at least administer it in the morning and evening.
