Supports the physiological barrier function of the gastric mucosa
900g sufficient for approximately 10–14 days
1,800g sufficient for approximately 3–4 weeks
The saying “to have a stomach like a horse,” often attributed to people with particularly robust stomachs, has long been disproven. Today, we know that although horses cannot vomit due to anatomical reasons, they still have an exceptionally sensitive stomach. For example, when hay is fed in meals with long (forced) breaks between portions, horses often develop inflammation in the upper part of the stomach. Stress also affects the stomach in horses and can lead to inflammation or, over time, even stomach ulcers, which are often located near the pylorus.
However, not every horse is the same: some are much more sensitive to disturbances in their stomach than others. There are certain behavioural signs that may indicate the stomach is not functioning optimally. For these horses, OKAPI GasterCare forte can be beneficial, as it supports the physiological barrier function of the gastric mucosa and can help sensitive horses, especially during stressful times or suboptimal feeding management, better cope with these challenges.
OKAPI GasterCare forte is particularly suitable for horses that show signs of an imbalance in the stomach.
OKAPI GasterCare forte can be combined with the administration of OKAPI Liquorice Extract for further support of the metabolism (please observe the current doping regulations). For successful use of OKAPI GasterCare forte, sufficient roughage must be provided. GasterCare forte can generally be combined with other products.
GasterCare forte can be administered over varying periods of time, depending on the individual needs of the horse and the specific circumstances. If no visible improvement is seen after a few weeks, it may be because the stomach is not the main cause of the existing problems, or relevant stress or feeding factors have not yet been optimally adjusted.
For example, if hay is still fed only in meals or the horse is under stress—such as group stress, chronic pain, or other stressful factors—the stomach lining may not be able to calm down. In such cases, it may be helpful to consult a qualified therapist to analyze the situation and make targeted adjustments.
Once signs of improvement are noticeable, the dosage can be gradually reduced. However, if the horse shows signs of discomfort again, such as from a stable change or the integration of new group members, the dosage can be increased at any time. GasterCare forte is generally suitable for long-term use, but it is always advisable to limit the dosage to the necessary minimum and work towards eliminating the need for ongoing support.
OKAPI GasterCare forte is best administered daily as a supplement alongside the horse’s regular feed. It is important to divide the dosage into three meals.
To calculate the appropriate dosage for OKAPI GasterCare forte, the following steps can be followed:
First, determine the weight of the horse. The weight can be measured using a scale, a measuring tape, or by using apps such as the BCI app from our partner Sanoanimal (available for free on the Google Play and the Apple Store).
Next, follow the feeding recommendation for OKAPI products, which is based on a 600 kg horse. The recommended daily dosage is 2 ml, three times a day (1 scoop = 10 g).
Adjust the dosage: If the horse weighs 300 kg, the dosage should be adjusted accordingly. The calculation would be: Daily dose (60 g) / 600 kg × horse’s weight (300 kg) = Daily ration (30 g).
This calculation method allows you to determine the appropriate amount to feed.
It is important to divide the daily dose into three meals or at least administer it in the morning and evening.
