What are OKAPI Cough Herbs?

OKAPI Cough Herbs are a mixture of pure herbs that have long been used in traditional folk medicine to provide relief for respiratory issues accompanied by mucus. They support the natural ability of the airways to loosen and transport excess mucus, allowing it to be coughed up, so the horse can breathe more freely afterwards.

If the horse’s cough is accompanied by mucus – such as yellow mucus spots on the floor after coughing, or yellow, viscous discharge from the nose – we strongly recommend consulting a qualified therapist or veterinarian, as this is typically indicative of an infectious condition. Our partner Sanoanimal is happy to assist in finding an appropriate therapist: https://wissen.sanoanimal.de/therapeuten. In such cases, we strongly advise against feeding our Sekretosan until the underlying cause of the respiratory problem has been clarified and properly addressed by a therapist.

Are OKAPI Cough Herbs suitable for my horse?

In principle, OKAPI Cough Herbs are suitable for adult horses of all ages and breeds.

Can I combine OKAPI Cough Herbs with other products?

OKAPI Cough Herbs can be easily combined with other products. We recommend combining it with OKAPI Sulphur Plus and OKAPI Zinc Plus for further support.

How long should I feed OKAPI Cough Herbs ?

OKAPI Cough Herbs can be given as a supplement to veterinary therapy. They should not be fed for more than six to eight weeks at a time. After this period, a break of four to six weeks is recommended, or a switch to OKAPI Secretosan or OKAPI Immuno Herbs for general immune system support.

How are OKAPI Cough Herbs fed?

OKAPI Cough Herbs can be directly incorporated into the horse’s existing feed and can be added dry or moistened to the feed or sprinkled over the hay. OKAPI Cough Herbs can also be prepared as a tea. Simply pour hot water over the herbs, add a teaspoon of honey to enhance the flavour, and feed the tea lukewarm to support its soothing effects.

How do I calculate the correct dosage for my horse?

To calculate the appropriate dose for OKAPI Grazing Herbs, the following steps can be followed:

Determine the horse’s weight: The weight of the horse can be determined either by weighing it, measuring it with a tape measure, or by using apps like the BCI app from our partner Sanoanimal (available for free on Google Play and the Apple Store).

Follow the feeding recommendation: The general recommendation for OKAPI products is based on a 600 kg horse.

The recommended daily amount is 30 g to 50 g (approximately one handful).

Adjust the dose: If the horse weighs, for example, 300 kg, the dose should be adjusted accordingly. The calculation would be: Daily dose (50 g) / 600 kg × Horse’s weight (300 kg) = Daily ration (25 g). This calculation method allows you to determine the appropriate amount.
