OKAPI ColoBalance contains 98% leonardite, which is derived from the humification of plants, as well as organic and mineral substances. Leonardite is naturally rich in humic acids, which support the natural function of the colon lining. Therefore, ColoBalance can be particularly useful during phases of stress on the colon in horses.
It is important to emphasize that ColoBalance is not activated charcoal, but rather primarily leonardite with a high content of humic acids. It is more similar to dried peat than activated charcoal. The latter is used by veterinarians in cases of acute poisoning, as it has a high binding capacity for water and dissolved substances, which are then excreted in the faeces. However, since activated charcoal also binds nutrients, regular feeding is not recommended.
The typical earthy or peat-like smell of ColoBalance is a result of its natural origin. As long as the packaging is sealed and the best-before date is adhered to, this smell is considered normal.
Additionally, ColoBalance contains 2% lignocellulose, which is added for moisture regulation. The white components are lignocellulose, and slight visual variations in the amount may occur, as it can separate slightly during transport. However, these fluctuations do not affect the quality of the product.
ColoBalance is suitable for horses, particularly for supporting colon restoration. The product contains leonardite, which is rich in humic acids that promote the natural function of the colon lining. It can be especially helpful during periods when the colon is under stress or digestive issues arise.
For horses with specific metabolic problems or chronic digestive issues, ColoBalance can provide supportive care. For prolonged or more complex health concerns, it is advisable to consult a nutrition or metabolic therapist to tailor the application.
OKAPI ColoBalance can be easily combined with other products to promote the health and well-being of the horse. It can be used alongside veterinary treatment for diarrhoea, loose stools, or inflammatory bowel issues. The high content of humic acids (up to 70%) supports the natural gut environment and can help stabilise the balance in the digestive tract.
To enhance the effects of ColoBalance, it may be beneficial to combine it with other products, such as OKAPI Bitter Herbs, which can stimulate appetite, OKAPI Licorice Extract, which has calming properties, OKAPI Lapacho Bark, which has anti-inflammatory effects, or OKAPI ColoProtect forte, which is specifically designed to support gut health. Combining these products can provide comprehensive support for the horse’s digestive system.
OKAPI ColoBalance can be fed over a longer period depending on the needs and specific requirements of the horse. However, in the case of long-term digestive issues or specific complaints, it is advisable to identify and address the underlying causes of these problems.
OKAPI ColoBalance can be mixed directly into the feed or combined with soaked hay cobs. It can also be given over dampened hay to increase acceptance.
To calculate the appropriate dosage for OKAPI ColoBalance, determine your horse’s weight. This can be done by weighing the horse, using a weight tape, or by using apps such as the BCI App from our partner Sanoanimal, which is available for free on both Google Play and the Apple Store.
The general recommendation is based on a 600 kg horse. The suggested daily amount is 5 ml (1 ml = 10 g), which totals 50 g per day for a 600 kg horse.
If your horse weighs 300 kg, the dosage should be adjusted accordingly. The calculation would be:
Daily dose (50 g) ÷ 600 kg × Horse weight (300 kg) = Daily ration (25 g).
This calculation method allows you to determine the correct amount of OKAPI ColoBalance for horses of varying weights.
